Food Rotation Systems

When Shelf Reliance first started out, their very first product was the Food Rotation Systems. These systems make it possible to store tons of cans, from tuna/chicken size cans to regular can good size cans, all the way up to #10 size cans. They maximize very little space and give you the ability to store more....no more under the bed, in the closet storage!
From the Shelf Reliance website: "Food storage management has never been easier thanks to Shelf Reliance Food Rotation Systems. Available in sixteen sizes and two depths, our food rotation systems were designed to easily store and rotate a large amount of cans. Every food rotation system features patented front-loading technology and fits easily into most storage spaces. Shelf Reliance Food Rotations Systems are customizable and offer a variety of convenient, versatile food organization options."
I fell in love with these about 4 years ago at a Time Out For Women Conference. They have a "clean" look to them, helped with organization- they feature the first-in-first-out technology and could store tons!

A friend of mine attend one of my very first home parties and purchased one for her husband for his birthday....she was kind enough to share her before and after pictures. Take note: on the bottom shelf is 18oz peanut butter....I'm not sure why is has never occurred to me that the shelves could rotate peanut butter...but they can!! We ALWAYS have tons of peanut butter and I love that it will fit in the Food Rotation Systems! So your ability to store many different products and sizes is really limitless!

Egg Powder

Did you know THRIVE could help you save money??? Take the Egg Powder, a #10 can is $19.65 (Retails for $21.89) and has the equivalent to just at 20 dozen eggs. I was in the grocery store yesterday and had to buy a dozen of eggs, I paid $1.58 a dozen. So had I bought 20 dozen eggs I would had paid $31.60. Buying the egg powder saves $11.95!!! That's a huge savings within your grocery budget!
You can use egg powder just like eggs! My family has had them scrambled, we've made breakfast casseroles, and we use them in our baking! Basically any recipes that calls for a whole egg, you can use the egg powder. The best part is you can store the can in your pantry! The Shelf Life is 5 years unopened and 6 months opened!

Butter Powder

How many of us have needed butter in our cooking, only to discover that there was none in the refrigerator? I know I have! Wouldn't it be nice to have butter in your pantry that is good for 5 years unopened and 9 months opened? Shelf Reliance offers THRIVE Butter Powder! It can be used in your daily cooking and baking and you can even spread it on your toast!

Here's the conversion for using butter powder: The conversion is 1 to 1. If you need 1 cup of butter add 1 cup of butter powder plus 1/4 cup water. For Spreadable Butter you can make honey butter: Spreadable Butter--for your bread Honey Butter 1 cup butter powder, 1 cup honey, ½ water, 1 c powder sugar, 1 t vanilla, Using wire whisk, beat ingredients until creamy. Powdered Butter for Baking- When used in baking add dry butter powder with dry ingredients. If the recipe calls for butter to be “creamed” with sugar as it does in many cookies recipes, add the butter powder, sugar, and water (just the water to rehydrate the butter) and cream that. It will NOT look right, but it will bake right. If the recipe calls for butter to be “cut in” as it does in many biscuit recipes. Just stir the butter powder into the dry ingredients with a wisk then add the water to rehydrate with the wet ingredients.

Prices for Butter Powder:

#10 Can $19.05...Retails for $21.19

Pantry Can $8.35...Retails for $9.29

Another Introduction

My name is Eden Johnson and as one of Fran’s teammates, I thought I would take a minute to introduce myself as well. I am a wife and mother of four. My oldest son, Ammon is 10. I have two daughters, Abigail (6) and Isabel (3). The caboose of our family is Isaac who is 4 months old. My husband and I have tried maintaining a supply of food storage since we married 12 years ago. I have always had a problem actually using the food, especially because consisted of mostly major staples and little easy to use, good tasting foods. When we moved to Augusta a few years ago, I was asked to be the Food Storage/Preparedness Specialist for our Ward. I found it hard to motivate people to get and use the suggested food storage requirements. I often listened to people ask about supplements to the major staples and I never had a good answer to tell them. I had not found a great product myself so it was hard to recommend them to other people. The only products I found that were quality were either cost prohibitive or required massive orders to get competitive pricing. Fran discovered THRIVE and introduced it to me. I have been so impressed by not only the quality of the food offered, but also the value you get with each can. I have found myself sneaking into the kitchen to steal handfuls of freeze-dried strawberries. My husband is thrilled at the prospect of making his breakfast oatmeal with different fruits each morning. My nephew is allergic to beef and now has a great tasting alternative that even his family can enjoy. The meats and vegetables are easy to use and incorporate into any regular diet. I hope that, if you have not already, you come to a tasting party and try them for yourself!

Food Storage is a Necessity, Not a Luxury

***Taken from Sariah Schmickrath @ www.teamshelfreliance.com****
You have of course, heard about food storage but chances are you have none or very little of it. I'm hopeful that this article will help you understand why you need food storage as part of any emergency preparedness plan and inspire you to start now to acquire the appropriate amount of food storage for your needs.
Why Food Storage
Look back through history and you'll quickly see that disasters are constantly affecting people around the world. Whether they be caused by nature, such as hurricane Katrina or manmade through war etc, they are everywhere. At any time a disaster could affect the flow of food to your area of the world.
In the U.S. most people are accustomed to an abundance of food that hasn't been seen in the worlds history prior to the last century. Just look at the obesity epidemic affecting us and other parts of the world. We are so used to being able to walk in a store and get literally everything we want that it doesn't uccur to us that anything could break that chain. But without a constant flow of trucks and planes to supply your local store, it would be empty in a day; in a few hours in a panic such as the hours before hurricane Katrina hit. Just walk through your local Walmart at about 9pm before the night stockers begin to replenish the shelves and notice how little yogurt and other things there are. I had a friend in Denver a few years ago when a huge snow storm hit and blocked all the roads. He went to the store on the second day and said he was flabergasted that the shelves were basically bare. All it takes is a small interuption in the supply chain and the food supply you are so accustomed to just being there, won't be.
It may be a local disruption such as a bad storm, earthquake or fire. Or it may be on a larger scale such as the outbreak of a virulent flu. If you don't feel how lucky we were with the swine flu a few years ago I encourage you to read more about it and see just how close we came to a global disaster of a massive scale. Our modern lives allow us to travel great distances conveniently and also helps to spread such an outbreak accross the globe very quickly. Do you think the truck driver who is driving the oranges to your local store is going to risk infection - his life potentially to deliver them? I think he would do what everyone will, stay at home and pray they don't have it already.
Its Not If, Its When
Read anything about emergency preparedness and you'll start to see that the experts are right, its only a matter of time until an emergency affects you personally. Most people have been effected by the down economy the last few years. Food storage isn't just for disasters. Its for any time where its difficult to secure food for yourself and your family. It could be as simple as a lost job. Which is an emergency that only affects you! Wouldn't it be easier to stretch a smaller income if you already had all the food you needed?

About Me

I am a wife to a firefighter/EMT. We have 3 wonderful and lively children, 2 boys and a girl. I love being a mother and wife, and could not imagine a better life for myself. Our family belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

My husband and I had been having the feeling that we should start building our food storage and have a GOOD 72 hour kit for our family. I have never given food storage and emergency preparedness a lot of thought. Even though we have been cautioned by our church leaders to be prepared for the unknown. I had a hard time spending money on food that our family would not rotate through. It just seemed like a waste to me. Then, a friend of ours from Utah, was hosting a THRIVE food storage party. From the time a heard about THRIVE, it just felt right. I had never tried the food, but had heard and read rave things about the quality and taste. We researched it a little and I talked to a consultant and it seemed like this would be the way for us to go to build our food storage. We decided that I should sign up as a consultant. I was like a little kid at Christmas waiting for my package to get here with the food storage samples. It arrived and I was not disappointed. The freeze dried fruits were amazing. The Freeze dried meats tasted like meat, even the TVP, which I had sworn off after tasting some my in laws had years ago, was good. In fact, my family loves the Taco TVP, we use it to make tacos and nachos. Shelf Reliance offers many of the things we use daily. I made a breakfast casserole, using the egg powder, we use the butter powder on our THRIVE freeze dried veggies. Since receiving my consultant package, I have used Thrive products in my daily cooking. This is food storage that my family will eat and rotate through. The TVP is cheaper than meat bought in the grocery store, the egg powder is a better buy than buying dozens of eggs in the store. So it can save us money. AND I don't feel like I'm spending money on products that we will never eat as a family unless we have an emergency. This is food we will and can eat on a daily basis. I have NEVER been excited about food storage, but now I cannot wait to see what new uses I can come up with for THRIVE products and how I can use them in all of my cooking.

Food Storage and Emergency Preparedness is a learning process for me. I want to learn how to cook with what we store, learn about things we need to have in out 72 hour kits, how we can be better prepared for ANYTHING. Our Church is not the only organization that cautions us to be prepared, the American Red Cross also cautions individuals to be prepared for the unknown. The unknown could be anything from weather disasters to a job lost. I want to know that my family will be prepared.

This blog, I hope may be informative to others. It'll be my outlet for information that I come across, recipes using food storage, my thoughts and ideas on food storage and emergency preparedness, and also specials through Shelf Reliance and information regarding Shelf Reliance. Shelf Reliance has given me a whole new outlook for being prepared that I never thought I'd have! If you have any questions, thoughts, ideas feel free to email me at: fran@teamshelfreliance.com
